A dental crown in Fairfax City should be molded to suit the size and shape of your tooth. Apart from that, it should also be the same tint that characterizes your other teeth. Fairfax City dentist Fotolia_7059513_XS.jpg

Your finished dental crown is going to be more or less permanent. Therefore, we must make it strong and robust.

This is why I have my lab technicians spend a lot of time on making sure the crowns are dependable. They will go out of their way to ensure that the bits and pieces we stick on your teeth will indeed be there for a long time. I can't ask for more than that in my profession — giving you a great porcelain crown that can do its job for a long time, looks real and works exactly like your original teeth.

But with seating or installation of the permanent dental crown you have to wait for a while as we make your permanent crown.

We also need to get the tooth ready for the porcelain crown. We have to grind away some of your original tooth. Don't worry. We won't leave your tooth with a big hole while your permanent crown gets made. You need to have comfort and the ability to flash your smile at will and no one should know the difference. You can go around with a temporary crown while you wait for us to finish your real one.

Here in my Fairfax City dental office, the makeshift crown we make for you is very sturdy. You can be sure that it would last for up to one month. All the while your permanent crown will be in the works. But there is one thing about your temp crown. The last thing we want is to give you is a well entrenched temporary crown because we may never pull it out.

It takes a bit of skill to make your crown. Before we start, we have to get the exact proportions of your tooth by making an impression of it. We do it to the affected tooth as well as the one opposite it. Basically, we do this so you can still eat the great foods that you do.

These impressions give us the ability to build the height of your temporary crown just right so you can chew all you want. Then we put the material into the mold to give your temporary crown a snug fit. After that, we attach the temporary crown using a type of cement that serves two purposes. It is strong and, significantly, doesn't last forever.

The temp crown will be strong, you don't have to worry. But still, it is better if you keep away from rock hard foods. Try to stay away from caramels, ice, and harder vegetables such as carrots. It won't take long. You just wait while your permanent crown is being put together by my lab technician. Please come over to my dental clinic for a visit.
